Sharing tips on how to stay consistent with working out, even when life gets in the way.  Hi friends! How’s the week treating you so far? I hope you’re having a great one. I have two podcast interviews this morning (new episode will be up tomorrow!) and am looking forward to coffee with a friend this afternoon. For today’s post, I wanted to talk a little bit about workout consistency. When I do my annual survey, this is always a common theme. It can be SO hard to stick with a routine, and I wanted to share some tips. Staying…

As Barb Buettner approached retirement, she was haunted by the question of how she would live in her later years. While looking after her parents, she had gotten a glimpse of the type of difficulties she might face. Her dad was lonely in his nursing home; Parkinson’s had worn down his body, but his mind was still sharp. His wife had Alzheimer’s, and he had few peers at the nursing home who could offer stimulating company. At least he had a daughter who could visit and care for him. But Buettner didn’t have any other close family members. She couldn’t…

Today I’m so thrilled and honored to welcome Udo Erasmus to the show. I’ve been a fan of his for years (decades?!) since I discovered Udo’s Oil, which I first started to become interested in a healthier lifestyle. He’s a wealth of knowledge and I enjoyed our conversation so much; I hope you’ll take a listen. We talk mostly about the elephant in the room: seed oils! Are they actually *bad*? Why are some seed oils better than others? How do we get an ideal balance of Omega 3s and 6s? Why is it important? Super fascinating stuff. Stay tuned…

If Donald Trump wins a second term, and his administration realizes conservative advocacy groups’ plans to dismantle environmental protections and drill, baby, drill, the United States is in for four years of relentless carbon pollution. In other words, another Trump presidency all but guarantees a complete abnegation of the country’s climate duties from 2025 to 2029. And as climate scientists say, emissions anywhere mean global warming everywhere: The United States’ heat-trapping contributions to the atmosphere during those years will make the world warmer than it would be without them. Already, the warming that humanity has locked in will bring many…

In November 2021, Temple Israel in Springfield, Missouri, began looking for a new rabbi. A quick perusal of job listings from other Reform synagogues left the search committee stunned: Scores of congregations, many offering higher salaries in larger cities, had been unable to fill their positions for months, sometimes longer. Eventually, Temple Israel entered into a fee-for-service agreement with a rabbi two hours away. He would come in for Shabbat, High Holiday services, and adult-education classes, but he wouldn’t attend community meetings, collaborate with local faith leaders, or recruit new members to the synagogue. For only the second time in…

Hi friends! Happy Friday! How was the week? I hope you had a great one! Ours was pretty low-key. The Pilot flew nights, the girls had all of their usual events and activities, and I’ve been here working on blog content, client calls, and podcast interviews. We have an event this weekend that I’m looking forward to, and I’m still looking for a dress. If you wait until the last minute, it only takes a minute. 😉 (My fave Sakara goji rose donut) (Smiling with her lil teeth after her Valentine’s haircut) Other than the event, I’m teaching barre, working…

The next Bond movie should be called Libido of Secrecy. It should be called Marmalizer, Mercuryface, Die to Tell the Tale.Actually—and I’m quite serious—it should be called The Black Daffodil, after Ian Fleming’s only book of poetry. Nicholas Shakespeare, in his walloping new biography, Ian Fleming: The Complete Man, describes this slim volume, bound in black and self-published in 1928, as “the holy grail for Fleming collectors.” He was 20. He was arty. Shakespeare includes a contemporary sample from Fleming’s journal: “If the wages of sin are Death / I am willing to pay / I have had my short…

Amr Bo Shanab/Getty Images/fStop Amr Bo Shanab/Getty Images/fStop The headlines are compelling, with phrases like, “The Obesity Revolution,” and “A new ‘miracle’ weight-loss drug really works.” The before-and-after pictures are inspiring. People who have struggled for decades to shed pounds are finally finding an effective strategy. The last few years saw breakthroughs in treatments for obesity, with new weight-loss medicines dominating recent news reports. The medicines, semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound), work by slowing stomach-emptying and decreasing appetite. They’re usually administered by weekly injection. Clinical trials boasted success comparable to surgery. Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey shared encouraging personal…
